Zircon is one of the most important accessory minerals in igneous rocks, metamorphic rocks, sedimentary rocks and lunar rocks. The paper deals with the morphology, major element, trace element and rare-earth element geochemistry and oxygen isotopes of zircons. Advances in various U-Pb dating methods including thermal ionization techniques, sensitive high resolution ion microprobe, evaporation techniques, laser probe inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry and electron microprobe are reviewed, and the applicability and limitation of the above dating method are also presented in this paper. |
