Attentional bias, the preferential allocation of attention upon specific type of information and a difficulty disengaging attention from it, plays a key role in the development of mental disorders. Likewise, attentional bias towards painrelated information, which contributes to the etiology and maintenance of chronic pain, is an aubiquitous phenomenon. Attentional bias was discovered in both healthy individuals and patients with chronic pain, but the difference on attentional bias between them is inconclusive. Author reviewed the methodology and theories in this field, and discussed the unsolved problems and future research directions. |
